Punjab Launches Drug-Free Campaign with Awareness Vehicles

Sangrur: Punjab minister and state AAP president Aman Arora on Friday said the Bhagwant Mann-led government has launched the ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh' campaign with a firm resolve to make the state drug-free. To turn the initiative into a people's movement, he flagged off special awareness vehicles aimed at mobilising public participation.

Arora stressed that community involvement is key to eliminating the drug menace, noting that lasting results can only be achieved through joint efforts of society and the government.

Highlighting recent action, he said the government has intensified its crackdown on drug traffickers and illegal networks, with police and allied departments regularly dismantling supply chains. This, he added, has strengthened public confidence in the government's resolve.

Acknowledging that many hesitate to report drug activity due to fear of exposure, Arora said that in the first phase, three awareness vehicles will be deployed in each constituency, equipped with complaint boxes. Citizens can anonymously drop information about drug peddlers without revealing their identity.

Nodal officers have been assigned to verify each input, following which action will be taken by the police, the health department and other agencies. He added that efforts are also underway to ensure treatment and rehabilitation for those struggling with addiction.

Arora said the campaign will continue until Punjab is completely drug-free, while cautioning that undoing a problem that took years to spread will require sustained effort.

He added that the initiative is also designed to reach families—especially women—who often hesitate to approach authorities despite distress caused by addiction within households. The vehicles will travel across villages and urban wards to collect feedback and complaints directly from citizens.

Urging people to come forward without fear, Arora appealed for active public support to safeguard future generations from the harmful effects of drugs.

On the occasion, district coordinator of the campaign Sandeep Singh Duggan said awareness programmes, seminars and youth engagement drives are being organised alongside efforts to identify drug peddlers.
