Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains Celebrates Republic Day with Focus on State's Progress

In a spirited Republic Day celebration at Patiala's historic Polo Ground, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains unfurled the national flag on Monday, marking the 75th anniversary of India's constitutional foundation. The minister delivered an inspiring address, calling upon all Punjabis to unite in building a vibrant and progressive state, while honoring the legacy of Dr. B R Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution, whose vision led to the establishment of the Indian Republic on January 26, 1950.

Tributes to Armed Forces and Constitutional Values

Bains paid heartfelt tributes to the armed forces for their unwavering dedication in protecting the nation's sovereignty and integrity. He emphasized the importance of upholding democratic values and the constitutional principles that guide India's diverse society. Reflecting on the significance of Republic Day, the minister highlighted how it serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by freedom fighters and the ongoing journey toward national development.

Transformative Health and Education Initiatives in Punjab

In his speech, Bains outlined the Punjab government's landmark achievements in health and education, positioning the state as a leader in social welfare. He announced that after revolutionizing education through world-class standards, Punjab has reached new heights in healthcare with the Chief Minister's Rs 10-lakh health cover scheme. This initiative makes Punjab the first state in India to provide free medical treatment up to Rs 10 lakh, benefiting an impressive 65 lakh families across the region.

Key highlights of the government's efforts include:

  • Education Revolution: Introducing entrepreneurship as a main subject in Class XI, making Punjab the pioneering state to implement this curriculum aimed at transforming youth from job-seekers to job-providers.
  • Drug Prevention: Implementing a specialized curriculum designed to keep students away from drugs, addressing a critical social issue in the state.
  • School Transformation: Converting 118 schools into Schools of Eminence, with 10 already operational in Patiala district, and providing grants under holistic plans for excellence.

Investments in Educational Infrastructure

Bains detailed the financial commitments to enhance school infrastructure, noting that under a comprehensive plan, eight schools have received Rs 62.5 lakh each for upgrades, while one school was granted Rs 82.5 lakh under the School of Brilliance program. These investments are part of a broader strategy to foster academic excellence and equip students with skills for the future.

The minister reiterated that education remains a top priority for the Punjab government, with a focus on innovation and holistic development. By integrating practical subjects like entrepreneurship and anti-drug education, the state aims to create a resilient and empowered generation capable of driving economic growth and social harmony.

As Punjab celebrates Republic Day, Bains' address underscored the state's commitment to building on its rich heritage while embracing modern reforms for a brighter future.
