Congress Leader's Explosive Allegations
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on Wednesday, claiming that democracy in India is being "murdered live" through systematic electoral manipulation. The Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha reiterated his serious allegations against both the Election Commission and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
Multiple Voting and Evidence Destruction
In a detailed post on social media platform X, Gandhi made startling claims about the electoral process. "Millions of BJP workers are roaming freely across states, casting votes multiple times", he asserted. The Raebareli MP further alleged that to conceal this alleged electoral fraud, all supporting evidence is being systematically erased.
Gandhi specifically referenced the Election Commission's submission before the Delhi High Court that CCTV footage from the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in the capital had been destroyed and was no longer available with district election officers. This revelation forms a crucial part of his evidence supporting the vote theft allegations.
Ongoing Campaign Against Vote Theft
The Congress leader has been consistently raising these concerns since August, having conducted three press conferences specifically addressing the issue of alleged vote manipulation. His most recent media interaction occurred on November 5, just one day before the first phase of polling in Bihar.
Gandhi also shared a Congress post highlighting instances of alleged multiple voting across three states, with the most recent case reported from Bihar. The party has been emphasizing violations of the fundamental "one person, one vote" principle, a cornerstone of democratic elections.
The timing of these allegations is significant, coming just before the Bihar assembly elections where 121 constituencies voted in the first phase on November 6, followed by the remaining 122 seats in the second phase on Tuesday. The counting for all 243 constituencies is scheduled for Friday.
Through his social media campaign, Gandhi has popularized the term "vote chori" (vote theft) to describe what he claims is a coordinated effort between the BJP and Election Commission to undermine India's democratic processes.
