Rahul Gandhi Accuses BJP Government of Orchestrating 'Riot-Like' Situation in Delhi

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government in Delhi, accusing it of deliberately creating a "riot-like" atmosphere in the national capital. His comments come amid heightened tensions surrounding the upcoming Eid celebrations, following the murder case of Uttam Nagar resident Tarun.

High Court Directs Police to Ensure Security During Eid

The Delhi High Court has issued specific directions to the police department to make adequate security arrangements in the Uttam Nagar area during Eid festivities, with instructions to maintain heightened vigilance through Ram Navami. This judicial intervention followed a Public Interest Litigation filed over concerns about potential violence during the religious celebration.

Gandhi's Strong Condemnation of BJP's Alleged Strategy

In a detailed post on social media platform X, Rahul Gandhi articulated his grave concerns about the political climate in Delhi. "Bloodshed is what only the BJP and its ecosystem desire," Gandhi asserted, "which seizes every opportunity to bake the bread of violence on the griddle of hatred."

He further elaborated on his accusation, stating that the ruling party allegedly wants to keep the nation embroiled in Hindu-Muslim conflicts to divert public attention from critical national issues. "They want the country to remain entangled in Hindu-Muslim strife, so that people cannot ask why on earth the Prime Minister is compelled to hand over the nation's defence, energy security, food security, and strategic sovereignty to America," Gandhi wrote.

The opposition leader directly connected this alleged strategy to the current situation in Delhi, claiming that "in broad daylight, riot-like conditions are once again being engineered in the country's capital."

Uttam Nagar Incident and Its Aftermath

The controversy stems from the tragic death of 26-year-old Tarun in Uttam Nagar, who was allegedly beaten to death following a neighborhood dispute between families from different religious communities. While the initial incident was localized, the PIL filed in the High Court alleges it was subsequently widely communalized through multiple channels:

  • Spread of inflammatory content across platforms
  • Mobilization of crowds through organized gatherings
  • Provocative speeches at events labeled "Akrosh Sabhas"

The legal petition specifically mentions that these gatherings featured speeches inciting violence against the Muslim community, including:

  1. Slogans promoting extrajudicial killings
  2. Calls for economic boycott of Muslim businesses
  3. Advocacy for social exclusion of community members

Heightened Security Concerns Ahead of Eid

The PIL presented to the High Court outlines several alarming developments that have created a climate of fear in Uttam Nagar:

"The 'ultimatum' given in several hate speeches for extrajudicial police encounter of the accused persons in the Tarun murder case, and full punitive demolitions of their houses, has further led to clarion calls of not allowing Eid celebrations in Uttam Nagar," the plea stated.

Additional concerns raised include:

  • Circulation of online posters and messages calling for Holi celebrations on Eid day
  • Explicit calls to prevent Muslims from celebrating their festival
  • Continued propagation of hateful narratives targeting specific communities

The legal document warns that these factors have created "a very high chance of riots or other disturbances" during Eid celebrations.

Gandhi's Appeal for Unity and Peace

Beyond his criticism of the BJP, Rahul Gandhi made a direct appeal to Delhi residents to resist provocation. "An appeal to the residents of Delhi: do not fall for any provocation - the strength of our nation lies in our unity, brotherhood, and love," he urged.

He emphasized the human cost of the violence, noting that "the people of Uttam Nagar have paid a heavy price" with one young man losing his life and an entire family facing persecution. "They want no more bloodshed," Gandhi added, calling for national unity with the message: "Connect the connections, unite India."

The Delhi High Court's intervention and the ongoing political controversy highlight the delicate security situation in the capital as religious festivals approach, with allegations of political manipulation adding complexity to an already tense environment.
