Rahul Gandhi Demands Transparent Investigation into Baramati Plane Crash
The leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has raised serious concerns regarding the investigation into the Baramati plane crash that resulted in the tragic death of former Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar. On Thursday, Gandhi alleged that fundamental legal principles have been disregarded in the handling of this case, emphasizing that no First Information Report (FIR) has been registered despite the gravity of the incident.
Meeting with NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar
Rahul Gandhi shared a photograph on his X (formerly Twitter) account following a meeting with NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar in Delhi. In his post, Gandhi called for a fair, transparent, and impartial investigation into the crash, stating that the circumstances warrant such scrutiny. Rohit Pawar, who is Ajit Pawar's nephew, appealed to Gandhi during their meeting to highlight the issue of his uncle's death in the ongoing Parliament session.
Criticism of Government Inaction
In subsequent interactions with reporters, Rohit Pawar expressed gratitude for Gandhi's support and criticized both the central and Maharashtra governments for their failure to register an FIR related to the January 28 plane crash, which claimed the lives of Ajit Pawar and four others. "It has been nearly one-and-a-half months since the plane crash, but still no FIR has been registered," Rohit Pawar said. He argued that the state government's proposal to involve the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) should have been accepted to initiate a proper investigation.
Parliamentary Discussion Urged
Rohit Pawar further emphasized that the issue deserves discussion in the ongoing Parliament session, expressing shock that "some people" appear more focused on protecting VSR Venture and its owner rather than ensuring justice. He has also met with other members of the INDIA bloc in recent days, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, DMK MP Kanimozhi, and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, urging them to raise the Baramati plane crash matter in Parliament to demand accountability and transparency.
