Ram Temple Trust Open to Probe After Akhilesh's Fund Claim

The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, responsible for overseeing the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, has stated its openness to a financial investigation. This comes after Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav raised allegations that a significant portion of donation funds collected for the temple project has gone missing.

Trust's Response to Allegations

In a press release issued on Wednesday, the trust clarified that all donations received are meticulously accounted for and utilized transparently. It emphasized that the trust has nothing to hide and would welcome any probe to verify its financial records. The trust also urged the public not to be misled by what it termed as baseless accusations aimed at tarnishing the temple's image.

Akhilesh Yadav's Claims

Earlier, Akhilesh Yadav had alleged that crores of rupees donated by devotees across the country have not been properly accounted for. He demanded a thorough investigation by a central agency to ensure transparency in the use of public funds. The Samajwadi Party chief also questioned the trust's management and called for a detailed audit.

Political Reactions

The allegations have sparked a political row, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) defending the trust and accusing Yadav of making baseless claims for political gain. BJP leaders pointed out that the trust comprises respected figures and that its financial dealings are above board. Meanwhile, other opposition parties have supported the demand for a probe, citing the need for accountability in public donations.

Background of the Ram Temple Project

The Ram Temple construction began in August 2020 after a landmark Supreme Court verdict in November 2019. The trust has raised funds through various channels, including a nationwide donation drive. The temple is expected to be completed by January 2024, with the consecration ceremony scheduled for January 22, 2024.

The trust's statement reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and urged all stakeholders to refrain from spreading misinformation. As the controversy unfolds, it remains to be seen whether a formal investigation will be initiated.
