Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has launched a strong attack on opposition parties, accusing them of targeting key democratic institutions, including the Election Commission, judiciary, EVMs, and government agencies. In a sharp statement, Rijiju referred to historical developments during the Congress era, including the Emergency period of 1975, judicial appointments, and constitutional amendments, questioning whether Indian democracy was truly thriving during that time.
Allegations of Institutional Misuse
Rijiju alleged that institutions were misused in the past and contrasted it with the present system of checks and committee-based appointments. He emphasized that the current government has strengthened institutional frameworks to ensure transparency and accountability.
Opposition Actions as Democratic Threat
Rijiju further said that opposition actions amount to an attack on the core of Indian democracy. He asserted that the people of India will respond strongly, giving what he called a “befitting reply” and “lifetime lesson.” The minister warned that such tactics would not undermine the democratic fabric of the nation.
This statement comes amid ongoing political tensions and debates over the credibility of electoral processes and judicial independence. Rijiju's remarks are seen as a direct challenge to opposition parties who have been critical of the government's handling of institutions.
