Road Repair Near Golden Temple Inconveniences Devotees; Gargaj Takes Up Matter with DC

The scraping of the upper layer of the Ghee Mandi road, which leads to the Golden Temple in Amritsar, has caused significant inconvenience to devotees. The Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs, has intervened and taken up the matter with the district administration.
Bitumen was removed from a small but crucial stretch of the road that is heavily used by devotees visiting the Golden Temple. Troubled by the disruption, devotees promptly brought the issue to the attention of acting Jathedar Kuldip Singh Gargaj.
Jathedar Gargaj immediately contacted Deputy Commissioner Dalwinderjit Singh and directed him to halt the work. He emphasized the need to ensure hassle-free movement for devotees around the Golden Temple.
Devotees expressed frustration as the upper layer was removed across the entire width of the road. They suggested that it would have been more convenient if only half of the stretch had been worked on, allowing a narrow path for movement.
Although the stretch is small, it serves as a vital connector for three roads leading to the holiest Sikh shrine and Jallianwala Bagh. An anguished devotee even filmed the spot and appealed to the Akal Takht Jathedar for intervention.
The Jathedar urged authorities to ensure smooth roads for devotees around the Golden Temple periphery, especially in view of the 450th anniversary of the holy city next year. The Deputy Commissioner has promised prompt action and issued directions to the concerned authorities.
