RSS Leader Hosabale Champions Constitution, Invokes Bhishma's Dharma on Republic Day
RSS Leader Hosabale Hails Constitution, Cites Bhishma on Republic Day

In a significant address during Republic Day celebrations, senior Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) leader Dattatreya Hosabale strongly endorsed the Indian Constitution, describing the protection of this foundational document, along with national unity and the country's borders, as the foremost duty of every citizen. Hosabale, who serves as the Sarkaryavah or general secretary of the RSS, led the ceremonial flag-hoisting event at the organization's Keshav Kunj headquarters in Delhi, marking the 77th Republic Day with a message steeped in historical and cultural references.

Invoking Bhishma Pitamah for National Inspiration

Hosabale drew a powerful parallel to Bhishma Pitamah from the epic Mahabharat, whose observance of Bhishma Ashtami coincided with Republic Day this year. He highlighted Bhishma as a timeless symbol of adherence to dharma, or righteous duty, regardless of challenging circumstances. In his speech, Hosabale elaborated that Bhishma's legacy offers profound lessons in raj dharma (the duty of rulers), praja dharma (the duty of citizens), and overall responsibility toward the nation. He portrayed Bhishma as an embodiment of character, discipline, and unwavering devotion, underscoring how these virtues align with true administration in accordance with dharma.

Context of Previous Remarks on Constitution's Preamble

This endorsement of the Constitution comes months after Hosabale sparked a political controversy in July last year by calling for a debate on the inclusion of the words 'Secular' and 'Socialist' in the Preamble, which were added during the Emergency period. His latest statements, however, focus on upholding the Constitution in its entirety, emphasizing its role as a cornerstone of India's democratic framework. By invoking Bhishma, Hosabale sought to bridge ancient wisdom with contemporary governance, suggesting that the epic's teachings can guide modern efforts to safeguard national integrity.

Call for Societal Unity and Compassion

Beyond constitutional matters, Hosabale urged a spirit of love, kindness, and service, particularly toward the weaker sections of society. He argued that fostering a culture of sensitivity and care across communities is essential for ensuring the Constitution's security and effectiveness. In his view, such societal cohesion directly contributes to national strength and resilience. Additionally, he called on all citizens to dedicate their efforts toward elevating Bharat to new heights across all developmental parameters, reinforcing the idea that collective action is key to progress.

This Republic Day message from Hosabale not only reaffirms the RSS's commitment to the Constitution but also integrates cultural narratives to inspire civic duty. By linking historical figures like Bhishma to modern-day challenges, the speech aims to resonate with a broad audience, encouraging reflection on unity, duty, and the enduring values that shape India's democratic journey.
