NTK Leader Seeman Delivers Scathing Critique of Vote-Buying and Freebie Culture in Tamil Nadu Politics
In a fiery address delivered in Mayiladuthurai on Thursday, Seeman, the prominent coordinator of the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), launched a vehement condemnation against political parties and individuals who engage in distributing cash and gift items to secure votes during elections. Seeman asserted that such practices demonstrate a profound disregard for the nation's welfare and the future of its citizens.
"Only Your Vote Matters, Not Your Progress": Seeman's Stark Accusation
Seeman articulated a powerful indictment, stating, "For them, only your vote matters, not your progress. Anyone focused solely on votes will never think about the nation." He elaborated that those who allegedly loot lakhs of crores from the country and then distribute money during electoral campaigns are essentially purchasing the self-respect of the people, reducing democratic participation to a transactional exchange.
He further criticized the government's priorities, remarking, "The government shows more concern for protecting liquor shops than for safeguarding people's livelihood," highlighting a perceived misalignment in administrative focus that neglects essential public welfare.
Direct Criticism Aimed at TVK and Established Dravidian Parties
Seeman specifically targeted the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), the party led by actor Vijay, for its recent manifesto announcements. He accused TVK of following in the footsteps of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) by promising free schemes to voters. "Like DMK and AIADMK, TVK is also announcing free schemes," Seeman noted during his campaign in Nagapattinam.
However, he contrasted NTK's approach, promising, "But I promise not only to provide education, healthcare, and drinking water free of cost, but also to ensure everything is delivered with quality and integrity." This statement underscores NTK's commitment to substantive governance over mere populist promises.
NTK's Electoral Ascent and Vision for Tamil Nadu
Seeman took the opportunity to highlight the significant growth trajectory of the Naam Tamilar Katchi since its political inception. He revealed that in its first electoral contest, NTK secured an impressive 4.5 lakh votes. This support base expanded substantially in subsequent elections, growing to 18 lakh votes and then further escalating to 30 lakh votes.
"People have now recognised it as the third largest party in Tamil Nadu and a strong alternative to DMK and AIADMK," Seeman declared with confidence. This assertion positions NTK as a formidable third force challenging the long-standing duopoly of Tamil Nadu's major Dravidian parties.
Rejecting a Politics of Dependency and Deception
Throughout his campaign speeches, Seeman consistently emphasized NTK's rejection of what he termed a "politics that enslaves people through freebies." He accused various political parties of systematically deceiving the electorate with monetary inducements and unsustainable freebies, which he argues undermine genuine development and foster dependency rather than empowerment.
Seeman's rhetoric frames the upcoming electoral battles in Tamil Nadu as a choice between transactional, short-term populism and a principled, development-oriented alternative represented by NTK.
