Seven-month-old dies in car crash near Thirumangalam

A tragic road accident near Thirumangalam claimed the life of a seven-month-old boy and left two others injured on Saturday. The incident occurred when the car they were traveling in veered off the road and crashed into a roadside tree.

Details of the Accident

According to police, the infant, identified as Viranj, was traveling with his parents, Aswath and Sowmini, who are residents of Telangana. Aswath originally hails from S Gopalapuram near Thirumangalam. The family had visited a temple in Srivilliputhur, Virudhunagar district, for the infant's tonsuring ceremony and was returning to Sowmini's parental home in Coimbatore.

The accident took place on the Rajapalayam–Thirumangalam national highway near T Pudhupatti. Aswath, who was driving, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway and strike a tree.

Casualties and Injuries

The infant, seated in the front with his mother, sustained severe head injuries and died at the spot. Sowmini and a relative, 65-year-old Malarkodi, were injured in the crash. They were immediately rushed to Thirumangalam Government Hospital, where Malarkodi was later referred to Government Rajaji Hospital for further treatment. The infant's body has been sent for autopsy.

Investigation

The Thirumangalam taluk police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. Further details are awaited.
