Shiv Sena (UBT) Leaders Condemn Delimitation Bill as 'Unfair Victory' Plot
In a strong rebuke from Mumbai, Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray declared on Saturday that the proposed delimitation bill would have fundamentally altered the Constitution for the political advantage of the ruling regime. He asserted that the legislation was designed to increase parliamentary seats, diminish the representation of numerous states, and facilitate the gerrymandering of constituencies to secure unfair electoral victories.
Bill Defeated in Parliament Amid Opposition Outcry
Aaditya Thackeray emphasized that this controversial bill has been decisively defeated in Parliament. He characterized it as a 'Delimitation to ensure unfair victory Bill', arguing that its passage would have marked a severe blow to democracy and the constitutional framework of India. In a detailed post on social media platform X, Thackeray elaborated that the amendment would have enabled the total defeat of democratic principles, urging instead for a genuine focus on implementing 33% women's reservation within the current 543 Lok Sabha seats for the 2029 elections and beyond.
Sanjay Raut Clarifies Opposition Stance on Women's Reservation
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut provided clarification regarding the opposition's position, stating that they had supported and passed the Women's Reservation Bill back in 2023 itself. Raut explained that the recent failure to pass the bill is not a triumph for the opposition parties but rather a victory for the people, particularly the women of the country.
Raut articulated, 'This is the victory of the women of the country. We voted against the fraud that was going on in the name of women. We are not against women's reservation, but this bill was passed in 2023 itself and 33% of the seats should be reserved.'
He further accused the ruling regime of attempting to buy votes by offering monetary incentives to women, urging them to cease such practices to reveal true public support. Raut emphasized that the women of India stand with the opposition, highlighting a disconnect between governmental actions and grassroots sentiment.
Call for Genuine Implementation and Democratic Integrity
The leaders underscored that the delimitation bill's defeat should not overshadow the urgent need for authentic democratic reforms. Aaditya Thackeray pointed out that the real intent of the government must be demonstrated through the implementation of the 33% women's reservation across all elections in India, starting with the Lok Sabha in 2029. This stance reflects a broader commitment to preserving constitutional values and ensuring fair representation, free from political manipulation and gerrymandering tactics.
