Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday asserted that his government has fulfilled all the promises made to the people in the last three years, while highlighting his efforts to build a 'Nava Karnataka' (New Karnataka). Addressing a gathering in Bengaluru, he detailed various welfare schemes and developmental projects undertaken by his administration.
Fulfillment of Promises
Siddaramaiah stated that his government has implemented all the guarantees given in the Congress manifesto for the 2023 assembly elections. He listed schemes like the 'Gruha Lakshmi' (cash transfer to women heads of households), 'Anna Bhagya' (free rice), 'Gruha Jyothi' (free electricity), and 'Yuva Nidhi' (unemployment allowance). The Chief Minister emphasized that these programs have been launched without any financial burden on the state exchequer, thanks to efficient fiscal management.
Social Justice and Empowerment
The Chief Minister underlined his commitment to social justice, citing the increase in reservation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes from 15% to 17% and 3% to 7%, respectively. He also mentioned the implementation of the 5% reservation for Muslims in education and employment, which was upheld by the Karnataka High Court. Siddaramaiah said his government has taken steps to empower backward classes, minorities, and economically weaker sections.
Nava Karnataka Vision
Siddaramaiah outlined his vision for a 'Nava Karnataka' based on five pillars: social justice, economic development, infrastructure, education, and healthcare. He highlighted the launch of the 'Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development' (KRIDL) program to improve roads, bridges, and water supply in rural areas. In education, the government has introduced the 'Karnataka Skill Development Mission' to enhance employability among youth. On healthcare, he mentioned the expansion of the 'Arogya Karnataka' scheme to provide universal health coverage.
Economic Achievements
The Chief Minister claimed that Karnataka has attracted the highest Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the country in the last three years, making it the top investment destination. He attributed this to the state's investor-friendly policies and robust infrastructure. Siddaramaiah also noted that the state's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has grown at an average of 8.5% annually, outpacing the national average.
Challenges and Criticism
While lauding his government's achievements, Siddaramaiah acknowledged challenges like the drought situation in some districts and the need for better law and order. He dismissed opposition criticism, stating that the BJP-led central government has not provided adequate funds for flood relief and other state needs. The Chief Minister urged the people to continue supporting his government in the upcoming local body elections.
Siddaramaiah concluded by reiterating his commitment to transparent and accountable governance, promising to accelerate the pace of development in the remaining term of his government.
