Six women killed, eight injured in Gujarat van-bus crash

At least six women were killed and eight others injured when a private bus collided with a van on National Highway 48 in Gujarat's Sabarkantha district on Wednesday, police said.

Details of the Accident

The van, carrying women from Modasa in Aravalli district, was hit from behind by a speeding bus on NH 48 connecting Shamlaji to Himmatnagar, said Deputy Superintendent of Police A K Patel. The women were part of a catering team for social events and were traveling from Modasa to Hunj village in Himmatnagar to attend a function.

Six women passengers in the van died in the collision, Patel said. Six other women, a man, and the van driver were injured and taken to Himmatnagar civil hospital. Medical officer Dr. Dhrupad Chauhan said two of the injured were in critical condition. The bodies were sent for postmortem to a government hospital.

Police have registered a case and are investigating the cause of the accident. The injured are receiving treatment, and authorities are working to identify the deceased.
