Sonia Gandhi Takes Decisions on Karnataka CM Change: Kharge

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday dismissed speculation about a leadership change in Karnataka, stating that decisions regarding his role are taken by Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi. He was responding to reports of internal tensions between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar over the chief ministerial post.

Kharge's Remarks on Leadership Change

Speaking to reporters, Kharge said the Congress party would resolve any confusion as soon as possible, but clarified that no leadership change is currently under consideration. 'There is no such proposal. The question of change does not arise. Whatever decisions are to be taken, Sonia Gandhi takes them,' he asserted.

Context of the Speculation

Kharge's remarks came after Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara suggested that Kharge could be an acceptable chief minister. Parameshwara had stated that if a change in leadership were needed, Kharge would be a suitable candidate. However, Kharge dismissed this as mere speculation.

He added that any major decision would require consultation with Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and would take time to finalise. 'The high command will decide. We have to consult Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. It will take time,' Kharge said.

Internal Dynamics in Karnataka Congress

The buzz around a possible leadership change in Karnataka has been fueled by reported differences between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar over the chief ministerial post. Both leaders have been seen as contenders for the top post, leading to speculation about a reshuffle.

However, Kharge's statement has put to rest immediate concerns about a change, indicating that the party leadership is not considering any such move at present. The Congress high command is likely to continue monitoring the situation and may take a call only after further consultations.
