The contest for the mayor's post in the upcoming Sonipat municipal corporation elections intensified on Friday as three candidates submitted their nomination papers. Among them, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nominee Rajiv Jain staged a high-profile show of strength, leading a massive roadshow through key city thoroughfares.
Grand Roadshow Marks Nomination Filing
Jain commenced his roadshow from Purkhas Adda, traversing through prominent locations such as Geeta Bhawan, Mama-Bhanja Chowk, and Tiranga Chowk before arriving at the mini secretariat to file his nomination. The procession drew a large number of supporters, and several senior BJP leaders were present, highlighting the party's robust organizational backing.
Election Schedule Announced
According to election authorities, nominations will continue until April 25. Scrutiny of nomination papers is scheduled for April 27, and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is April 28. Voting is set for May 10, with the counting of votes to take place on May 13.
Candidate's Vision for Sonipat
Rajiv Jain, a graduate of Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak (1984), stated that if elected, his top priority would be to complete pending development works. He reiterated his vision of transforming Sonipat into one of the cleanest cities in the state.
