A 23-year-old SSC aspirant and his married girlfriend allegedly died after consuming poison in a hotel in Jhansi, police said on Monday. The incident took place at Royal Inn in the Nawabad police station area.
Hotel Check-In and Incident
Police said the couple checked into the hotel on Sunday. A short while later, hotel employees reportedly heard noises and repeated vomiting from the room. When knocks went unanswered, staff informed the police. Police later broke open the door and found both lying unconscious. They were taken to the hospital, where they died during treatment on Sunday night.
Family Allegations
The youth’s uncle alleged that the girl had been pressuring his nephew for money and had called him to the hotel on Sunday. The girl’s father claimed his daughter had marital disputes with her husband and in-laws. He accused her in-laws of threatening the couple and alleged that the youth may have been pressured into taking the extreme step. The girl’s brother also claimed that she had informed the family a day earlier that her husband had threatened to kill them.
Husband Denies Allegations
The woman’s husband denied all allegations. He said she had left their child at her sister’s house before leaving home, and later he was informed that both had consumed poison.
Police Investigation
Circle officer (City) Laxmikant Gautam said preliminary investigation suggests the case is linked to a love affair. However, he said family members from both sides initially denied knowledge of the relationship.
