Stani Questions Modi's Keeladi Snub, Challenges EPS on Language Policy

DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday launched a sharp critique against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami during election rallies in Pudukkottai and Sivaganga. Stalin questioned why Modi did not visit the historic Keeladi excavation site during his recent trip to Thiruparankundram, challenging the Prime Minister's commitment to Tamil heritage.

Challenge to AIADMK on Language Policy

Stalin directly challenged Palaniswami to take a firm stand on Tamil Nadu's two-language policy in the presence of BJP leaders. "Can EPS ask why more funds were allocated to Sanskrit than Tamil? Can he tell Amit Shah it was wrong to call Sanskrit the source language? Does he have the spine?" Stalin demanded, referencing the linguistic policies advocated by former Chief Minister C N Annadurai.

The DMK leader accused Palaniswami of failing to oppose several contentious measures, including the Citizenship Amendment Act and the Waqf Amendment Bill. "The proposed FCRA changes are going to target Christians. Has he opposed any of this, even for the sake of the election?" Stalin questioned, highlighting what he described as AIADMK's silence on critical issues.

Criticism of BJP's Law and Order Record

Responding to BJP leaders campaigning on law and order in Tamil Nadu, Stalin pointed to incidents in BJP-ruled states. He specifically referenced crimes in Uttar Pradesh, including a recent case in Ghaziabad and the Hathras incident, questioning the BJP's record on women's safety.

"BJP has no right to speak about women's safety in Tamil Nadu, where women can travel safely even at midnight," Stalin asserted. "Here, offenders—whether policemen or political functionaries—face action, with cases registered and charge sheets filed promptly."

Keeladi Excavation Concerns

Stalin expressed deep concern about the neglect of Tamil historical sites, particularly Keeladi. "What is preventing you? Why has the Keeladi excavation report not been released? Why is Tamil's historical pride unacceptable to you?" he asked, directing his questions at Modi and other BJP leaders who have avoided the archaeological site.

Allegations of Hindi Imposition

The Chief Minister referenced remarks by Union minister Ramdas Athawale about the NDA forming a coalition government in Tamil Nadu, questioning why Palaniswami did not respond. Stalin alleged that Union ministers campaigning in the state were supporting Hindi imposition through the three-language formula.

"Has EPS opposed this even once?" he asked, adding that funds were being withheld from Tamil Nadu for resisting such measures. Stalin further criticized Palaniswami, alleging that he lacked both ideology and achievements. "He has become subservient to a party that is betraying Tamil Nadu and its people," Stalin declared.

Earlier Events and Comments

Earlier in the day, Stalin held a vibrant roadshow in the Viralimalai constituency of Pudukkottai district, engaging with supporters ahead of the elections. When questioned about actor-turned-politician Vijay's political ambitions, Stalin responded that the DMK was not concerned about new entrants in the political battle, focusing instead on their established agenda and policies.

The rallies highlighted the ongoing political tensions in Tamil Nadu, with Stalin positioning the DMK as the defender of Tamil identity against what he portrayed as external threats from the BJP and internal compromises by the AIADMK.
