In a remarkable display of humanity amidst security operations, a Special Task Force (STF) team in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district rescued a critically injured tribal woman from a remote village, showcasing that their mission extends beyond combat to community welfare.
Discovery of a Medical Emergency
While conducting a search operation in the Purangel village area, the STF personnel, led by company commander Om Prakash Sen, encountered a distressing scene. They found a tribal woman in a severe medical condition, suffering from extensive burn injuries that had occurred approximately 10 to 15 days prior. According to officials, the woman had accidentally fallen into a fire while trying to warm herself, resulting in serious burns from the waist upwards.
Her condition had significantly deteriorated due to the complete absence of timely medical attention in the isolated region. The injuries, estimated to cover 40% to 50% of her body, had developed complications including maggot infestation in the affected areas, making the situation even more critical.
Immediate Humanitarian Response
Recognizing the urgency, the STF team immediately sprang into action. They first provided ration and financial assistance to the woman's family, acknowledging their plight. The personnel then focused on organizing a rescue mission to transport her to a medical facility, despite the challenging circumstances.
With no motorable roads accessible to the remote village, the jawans demonstrated remarkable ingenuity and physical endurance. They improvised a stretcher using a local cot and carried the injured woman on their shoulders through the rugged, difficult terrain. This arduous journey covered the distance to Hiroli village, where an ambulance had been arranged in advance.
Coordinated Medical Evacuation and Care
From Hiroli, the ambulance transported the woman to Kirandul hospital, where doctors provided primary treatment. After assessing the seriousness of her condition, they referred her to the district hospital in Dantewada for specialized care. She was subsequently admitted there for comprehensive treatment under specialist supervision.
The STF's compassion extended beyond the initial rescue. Officials noted that the woman has a three-month-old infant son, and security personnel coordinated with hospital administration to ensure both mother and child received proper care and support during this challenging time.

STF superintendent of police Trilok Bansal praised the team's actions, emphasizing that the personnel displayed deep human sensitivity during what was fundamentally an anti-Naxal operation.
