Bathinda: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Friday appealed to voters to support the party in the upcoming municipal elections, asserting that only the SAD can guide Punjab back to a path of progress and prosperity.
Sharp attack on AAP government
Addressing a gathering at the residence of late legislator Raghbir Singh in Gidderbaha, Sukhbir launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), claiming it had "failed on all fronts" and was "on its way out." He alleged that civic infrastructure across the state is deteriorating, with no efforts made to strengthen roads, sewerage, or street lighting that were established during the SAD's tenure.
Law and order breakdown
Sukhbir also highlighted what he described as a breakdown of law and order, noting that incidents of snatching, robbery, and extortion have become frequent. "In such a situation, there is a growing belief that only a regional party like SAD can form a government that truly reflects the aspirations of Punjabis," he said.
Employee dues and unfulfilled promises
Targeting the AAP government over its handling of employees, Sukhbir alleged that dearness allowance was not being released to employees and pensioners despite court orders, and accused the government of reneging on its promises. He claimed that employees are being denied their dues even as "crores" are spent on advertisements and publicity. In contrast, Sukhbir noted that former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had not only set up pay commissions but also ensured their implementation after addressing anomalies flagged by employee unions.
