Himachal CM Sukhu Campaigns in Assam, Vows Probe into Zubeen Garg's Death
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of Himachal Pradesh campaigned across parts of Assam on Monday in support of Congress candidates for the upcoming assembly polls. During his campaign, he made a significant assurance regarding the suspicious death of noted singer Zubeen Garg, promising a thorough investigation and justice within 100 days of the government being formed.
Campaign Focus on Justice and Development
Sukhu emphasized that the people of Assam are deeply dissatisfied with the handling of Garg's death. Zubeen Garg, aged 52, died on September 19 last year while swimming near Lazarus Island in Singapore. Singapore authorities have termed it an accidental drowning and ruled out foul play, but Sukhu highlighted public concerns and pledged to address them promptly if Congress comes to power.
Campaigning in the Jaleswar and Senga constituencies, Sukhu urged voters to support the Congress party. He outlined key promises from the party manifesto, including:
- Financial assistance of Rs 50,000 for women entrepreneurs to boost local businesses and empower women economically.
- A monthly pension of Rs 1,250 for senior citizens, to be administered through a dedicated department to ensure timely and efficient distribution.
- Cashless healthcare coverage of up to Rs 25 lakh per family, aimed at providing comprehensive medical support without financial burden.
Criticism of BJP and Pledges for Assam
Targeting the BJP government in Assam, Sukhu alleged that the state has been witnessing rising corruption and misuse of resources over the past decade. He claimed that Assam has lagged in development and economic growth under BJP rule, asserting that all corruption cases would be thoroughly investigated if Congress forms the government.
Sukhu contrasted Congress's approach with what he described as BJP's divisive politics, emphasizing that his party stands for inclusive development. He pledged continued efforts for Assam's progress, focusing on transparency, accountability, and equitable growth. The campaign aimed to rally support by addressing local issues and promising actionable solutions.
