As the deadline for nomination submissions approached, heavyweight candidates from various political parties in Tamil Nadu officially filed their papers on Monday for the upcoming assembly election. The process saw significant activity across southern and central districts, with sitting ministers, party veterans, and notable figures participating.

Madurai District Highlights

In the Madurai South constituency, BJP candidate Raama Sreenivasan filed his nomination alongside Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Prior to submission, they led a procession and garlanded the statue of renowned singer T M Soundarajan, a gesture aimed at appealing to the Sourashtra community, which forms a significant vote bank in the constituency. Simultaneously, sitting MLA M Boominathan, accompanied by MDMK general secretary Vaiko, also filed his nomination for the same seat.

Other key filings in Madurai included Madurai Central DMK candidate and sitting minister P T R Palanivel Thiagarajan, Madurai East DMK candidate and sitting minister P Moorthy, and AIADMK candidate for Madurai West constituency Sellur K Raju, who is also the sitting MLA.

In Theni district, sitting MLA and DMK candidate O Paneerselvam filed his nomination for the Bodinayakanur constituency. Virudhunagar district witnessed BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran submitting his papers for the Sattur constituency, while DMDK candidate Vijaya Prabhakaran, son of the late Vijayakanth, filed for the Virudhunagar constituency.

Tirunelveli district saw DMK candidate and assembly speaker M Appavu filing his nomination for the Radhapuram constituency. In Srirangam, DMK candidate S Durairaj submitted his nomination after leading a procession with party members and alliance partners.

In Lalgudi, AIADMK candidate Leema Rose, wife of lottery baron Martin, filed her nomination papers. The reserved Thuraiyur constituency had Congress candidate V Lenin Prasad submitting his nomination, supported by municipal administration minister K N Nehru, Perambalur MP Arun Nehru, and DMK leaders.

Thiruverumbur saw AIADMK candidate and former MP P Kumar, along with TVK candidate Navalpattu Viji, filing their nominations. Pudukottai district featured minister and Thirumayam MLA S Regupathy, Alangudi MLA and minister Siva Meyyanathan, and AIADMK MLA C Vijayabaskar submitting their papers. Additionally, DMK's candidate for Viralimalai, K K Chellapandyan, and BJP candidate Ramachandran for Pudukkottai filed their nominations.

Nagapattinam constituency witnessed Manithaneya Makkal Katchi president M H Jawahirullah filing his nomination to contest on the DMK's ‘Rising Sun' symbol, highlighting alliance dynamics in the election.
