A sense of disgruntlement has prevailed among aspirants for the Rajya Sabha berths from the Rayalaseema region, as the TDP-Jana Sena combine has selected all four nominees from other parts of the state, effectively sidelining Rayalaseema. The Jana Sena declared industrialist Lingamaneni Ramesh as its Rajya Sabha nominee, while the TDP named Chinthakayala Vijay, Sana Satish, and Bhashyam Ramakrishna as its candidates. All four nominees belong to the Guntur-Vijayawada-East Godavari and Coastal Andhra regions, leaving no representation for Rayalaseema.
Party Leadership Attempts to Pacify Local Leaders
The TDP leadership reached out to zonal coordinator Reddeppagari Srinivasa Reddy from Kadapa, who had pinned strong hopes on a Rajya Sabha berth and was considered a frontrunner from the Rayalaseema region. However, efforts to pacify him have not succeeded.
Srinivasa Reddy Expresses Displeasure
Srinivasa Reddy did not hide his displeasure over the manner in which the party leadership sidelined him after promising a Rajya Sabha berth during the run-up to the 2024 general elections. At that time, the TDP leadership had asked him to step down from contesting the Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency. In a post on his X handle, he said: “In a politically sensitive district like Kadapa, I have stood by the TDP and worked tirelessly for the last 13 years with a sole determination to strengthen the party despite facing numerous political, financial, and other kinds of pressures. It is painful that leaders who work selflessly for the party are not being rewarded for their loyalty and commitment. The party leadership not honouring its commitment of awarding me with a Rajya Sabha membership will be the most disappointing episode in my political career. However, I will continue to work to the best of my ability for the party workers, for the people, and for the development of the region.”
Background and Implications
The decision has sparked discontent among party workers in Rayalaseema, who feel the region has been ignored despite its significant contribution to the party's strength. The TDP-Jana Sena alliance had promised inclusive representation, but the latest nominations have raised questions about their commitment. Political analysts suggest this could impact the alliance's prospects in future elections in the region.
