A tragic accident on the Marathahalli bridge in Bengaluru claimed the life of a 28-year-old software engineer late Wednesday night. The victim, identified as Rohit Sharma, was thrown off the bridge after a speeding car traveling on the wrong side collided with his two-wheeler.
Details of the Incident
The accident occurred around 11:30 PM near the Kalamandir junction. According to police, the car driver, later identified as 35-year-old Mahesh Kumar, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and driving at a high speed. He lost control of the vehicle and entered the wrong lane, crashing head-on into Rohit's motorcycle.
Rohit was flung off the bridge and fell onto the road below. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries. The car driver sustained minor injuries and was arrested.
Police Investigation
Senior police officials said that a case has been registered under sections 304A (causing death by negligence) and 279 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code. The driver's blood sample has been sent for analysis to confirm alcohol levels. A forensic team examined the scene and collected evidence.
Police also noted that the stretch of the bridge has poor lighting and no barriers, which may have contributed to the severity of the accident. They are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby cameras to reconstruct the sequence of events.
Victim's Background
Rohit Sharma was a software engineer at a multinational company and resided in a rented apartment in Marathahalli. He was returning home from work when the accident occurred. Friends and colleagues described him as a dedicated professional and a kind-hearted person.
His family in Rajasthan has been informed, and the body is being sent for post-mortem.
