Teen Dies, Mother Injured in Four-Vehicle Crash in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: A tragic multivehicle accident at Mylakkara near Kallikkad on Sunday afternoon claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy and left his mother with serious injuries. The deceased has been identified as Sujin Kumar, a resident of Perekkonam, Vazhichal. He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kattakada.

Accident Details

According to police reports, Kumar was riding a motorcycle with his mother, Greeshma, as the pillion rider. The duo was traveling from Vazhichal to Kallikkad when the motorcycle reportedly rear-ended an autorickshaw moving ahead of them. The impact caused the bike to veer into the opposite lane, where it collided with another motorcycle and a car coming from the opposite direction. The force of the collision threw both riders onto the road.

Injuries and Response

Kumar sustained a severe head injury after hitting the road, while Greeshma suffered serious injuries to her leg, hand, and other parts of her body. Local residents rushed to the scene and immediately transported them to Neyyar Medicity Hospital in Kattakada. Despite doctors' efforts to revive him, Sujin Kumar could not be saved. Greeshma remains under treatment at the hospital.

Investigation Underway

The Kattakada police have registered a case under the provisions of unnatural death and have launched an investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident. The body has been shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram for postmortem examination. Police officials stated that statements from witnesses are being recorded and further inquiries are ongoing.
