A tragic incident unfolded in Sivaganga district where a 14-year-old Class X student was brutally murdered by his friends following a drunken brawl on Thursday. The victim, Ashwin, a student of a government higher secondary school in Thirukkalapatti, had gone to consume liquor with three of his companions after school hours. The situation escalated when an argument broke out among them, leading to a violent attack. The assailants used a small knife to slit Ashwin's throat, resulting in his immediate death.
Discovery of the Body
The crime came to light on Friday when one of the accused, a 17-year-old, approached the police out of fear and reported the incident. Following this, the authorities recovered Ashwin's body near the Keel Kaavanoor irrigation tank. The corpse was sent to Sivaganga Medical College Hospital for a postmortem examination. Forensic teams collected evidence from the crime scene, and Superintendent of Police R Shiva Prasad visited the location to oversee the ongoing investigation.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
Based on a complaint filed by the victim's father, Nagaraj, the Keelasevalpatti police registered a case under section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). It was revealed that Ashwin had not attended school on the day of the incident. The police have identified three suspects: Aravind (24), Ganesan (22) of Karaiyur, and a 17-year-old boy, who is a second-year polytechnic student with no prior criminal record. All three remain at large, and efforts are underway to apprehend them.
A senior police official informed the Times of India that the motive behind the murder has not yet been established, as the primary accused are still absconding. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to piece together the events that led to this senseless tragedy.
