Kanpur: In a tragic incident on Monday morning, two siblings and their cousin drowned while bathing in a river in Banda. All three bodies were recovered after a two-hour search operation. The incident took place in Gauri village under the Jaspura police station area.
The four siblings went to bathe in the Chandrawal river. While the elder brother stayed on the riverbank, his sister Madhuri (13), younger brother Ansh (10), and their cousin Pratik entered the water. They drifted into deeper water and began to drown. The elder brother, Siddharth (18), jumped in to rescue them, but by then all three had been swept away by the strong current.
Police from Jaspura police station reached the ghat and deployed divers. After a two-hour search, all three bodies were found. Doctors at Jaspura CHC declared them dead on arrival. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and an investigation is underway.
Ansh and Madhuri were the children of carpenter Ramashankar Vishwakarma, a resident of Gauri village. The family is in deep grief over the loss.
