Udupi: A routine well-cleaning operation in Ashwathapura near Karkala took a dramatic turn on Sunday when three men became trapped inside a 30-foot-deep well, prompting a swift rescue operation by personnel from the department of fire and emergency services.

Incident Details

According to Karkala fire station officer Albert Monis, the incident began when Rajesh, 42, who was cleaning the well, attempted to climb out using a rope. Two other individuals standing outside were trying to pull him up. However, Rajesh lost his balance and fell back into the 30-foot well.

Soon after, Pawan, 29, and Gopal, 52, who were engaged in cleaning a nearby well, were called for assistance. The duo attempted to rescue Rajesh but were unable to bring him out of the well. Their efforts proved futile as they also became trapped inside.

Rescue Operation

Following the incident, local residents alerted the fire department. A rescue team quickly arrived at the spot and launched an operation to pull all three men to safety. The team used ropes and other equipment to extract the individuals from the deep well.

Rajesh sustained injuries to his head and legs during the fall and was immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment. The other two men, Pawan and Gopal, were rescued without any major injuries.

The fire department officials commended the swift response of the locals who alerted them and the coordinated efforts of the rescue team. The operation was completed efficiently, ensuring the safety of all three trapped men.
