The death toll from the devastating blast in Thrissur, Kerala, has climbed to 15 after the license holder of the establishment succumbed to severe burn injuries at a hospital. The individual, who had been undergoing treatment for critical burns, passed away late Tuesday night, according to hospital sources.
Details of the Incident
The explosion occurred at a commercial building in the heart of Thrissur city, causing widespread damage and panic. Initial reports indicated that the blast was triggered by a gas leak, but investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause. The license holder, identified as Rajesh Kumar, was the owner of the shop where the explosion took place. He sustained over 80% burns and was admitted to the intensive care unit.

With the latest death, the total number of fatalities has reached 15, including several bystanders and passersby. More than 30 others were injured, with some still in critical condition. Rescue operations were launched immediately after the blast, and the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals.
Official Response
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed condolences and announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the deceased. He also ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident. The district administration has declared a compensation package for the injured. Meanwhile, the police have registered a case and are questioning the building management regarding safety violations.
