TMC MPs Allege Central Forces Baton-Charged Civilians Outside Polling Booth in Bengal
During the ongoing West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs have leveled serious allegations against central forces, accusing them of baton-charging civilians outside a polling booth. The incident reportedly took place in the Falta area of the state, though the specific constituency was not named by the MPs.
TMC MP Sagarika Ghose took to social media to condemn the actions of the central forces. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), she described the incident as "unbelievable violence" perpetrated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah against the citizens of Bengal. Ghose alleged that central forces not only baton-charged women but also struck and injured a child, calling it "unacceptable." She demanded that the involved officers be brought before the law, referring to them as "Singham thokshahi cops."
The TMC MPs have demanded a thorough investigation into the incident and have called for accountability. The allegations have sparked political tensions, with the ruling party at the center denying any wrongdoing and accusing the TMC of spreading misinformation to influence the election outcome. The Election Commission has been urged to look into the matter and ensure free and fair polling in the remaining phases of the election.
As the election process continues, such incidents highlight the charged atmosphere in the state, where political rivals have frequently clashed over the conduct of security forces. The central government has maintained that its forces act in accordance with the law and any lapses are dealt with strictly.
