The official Trinamool Congress (TMC) has firmly rejected the move by rebel legislators to back expelled leader Abhishek Banerjee for the post of Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the West Bengal Assembly. The party clarified that the MLAs have no authority to make such decisions, emphasizing that the matter lies solely with the party leadership.
Background of the Expulsion
Both Banerjee and another TMC leader, Saha, were expelled from the party on June 1 for alleged involvement in anti-party activities. This action came just minutes after Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari named them as complainants in a signature forgery case.
