TMC Leader Abhishek Banerjee Launches Scathing Attack on BJP Government

In a fiery address at a party event, Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee has launched a blistering critique against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. Banerjee leveled serious allegations, accusing the administration of humiliating President Droupadi Murmu on caste grounds and compromising India's strategic autonomy by allegedly ceding control to the United States.

Allegations of Caste-Based Discrimination Against President

Banerjee pointed to specific instances to support his claims of disrespect toward the President. "When Manipur was burning for three years, the President was silent. When the Ram Mandir was inaugurated, she wasn't invited because of her caste. The same happened when Parliament was inaugurated," the TMC leader asserted during his speech.

These comments come amid heightened political tensions following President Murmu's recent expression of displeasure regarding administrative decisions surrounding the International Santhal Conference in Bengal. The President had voiced her disappointment on Saturday when the event venue was shifted at the last moment to a location inconvenient for Santhal community members.

Claims of US Dictating Indian Military Orders

Banerjee further escalated his criticism by questioning India's sovereignty in defense matters. "The Indian Armed Forces are under the President. When Pakistan and India fight, all orders are supposed to be given by her. But the US president is dictating these orders instead," he claimed, suggesting that America was overriding India's constitutional command structure.

The TMC leader emphasized that while President Murmu serves as the supreme commander of the armed forces according to the constitution, he alleged that practical authority was being exercised by foreign powers, specifically referencing the United States.

Protocol Controversy and Political Fallout

The political scuffle intensified after President Murmu's comments about the Santhal Conference arrangements. She expressed sadness that the chosen venue was too distant for many Santhal people to attend. Additionally, she noted the unusual absence of Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during her visit, describing it as a departure from established protocol.

"If the President visits a place, the Chief Minister and the Ministers should also come. But she did not. I am also a daughter of Bengal. Mamata Didi is also my sister, my younger sister. I don't know if she was angry with me, that's why this happened," President Murmu stated on Saturday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi subsequently condemned the protocol breach, stating: "By showing utter disregard for protocol, they have insulted the President of India. This incident has laid bare the deep rot within the Trinamool government. This affront to the President at an event organised by our tribal brothers and sisters is an insult to our nation and the values of our constitutional democracy."

Broader Implications for Indian Politics

Banerjee's remarks represent a significant escalation in political rhetoric between the TMC and BJP, touching on sensitive issues of:

  • Caste discrimination allegations at the highest levels of government
  • India's strategic autonomy in foreign relations
  • Constitutional protocol and respect for presidential office
  • Federal-state relations between Bengal and the central government

The controversy has sparked intense debate about proper protocol observance, respect for constitutional positions, and India's foreign policy independence. As political tensions continue to simmer, these allegations are likely to feature prominently in upcoming political discourse and parliamentary discussions.
