The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led alliance has allocated a Rajya Sabha seat from Tamil Nadu to its partner, the Indian National Congress, ahead of the biennial elections scheduled for June 18. This decision was announced as part of the seat-sharing arrangement within the TVK-led front.
Seat Allocation Details
In an official statement, the alliance confirmed that the seat falling vacant from Tamil Nadu, which will be filled through the upcoming Rajya Sabha election, has been assigned to the Congress. This move underscores the collaborative efforts between the two parties as they prepare for the polls.
Congress Leader's Appeal
Earlier in the day, Congress Tamil Nadu election in-charge Girish Chodankar met with Chief Minister Vijay to discuss the allocation. Chodankar stated, "I have just met the chief minister, and I have urged him, requested him that this seat should be allocated to us by them and then it will also help us in the Parliament in Rajya Sabha." He expressed optimism about the chief minister's consideration, adding, "I think CM should be considering our request, it looks like. Candidates' names are finalised only by the central election authority of the Congress party. The moment this seat is announced as a Congress seat, then we will request our central election committee to decide on our candidate."
Election Timeline
The Rajya Sabha election for this seat is scheduled to take place on June 18. The Congress party is expected to announce its candidate for the Upper House seat in the coming days, following the formal allocation.
This development marks a significant step in the political dynamics of Tamil Nadu, as the TVK-led alliance strengthens its partnership with the Congress. The allocation is seen as a strategic move to consolidate support ahead of the elections.
