In a tragic incident on Friday afternoon, two brothers, aged 18 and 14, drowned in a water-filled quarry at Teegaon village in Sangamner taluka of Ahilyanagar district. The deceased have been identified as Mahesh Sanap (18) and Omkar Sanap (14), belonging to a farming family in the area.
Incident Details
According to Inspector Pravin Salunkhe of the Sangamner taluka police station, the two brothers had gone to the quarry near their house for a swim. The police reported that several local youths from Teegaon frequently visit the quarry to cool off and beat the heat. On Friday, the brothers went to the quarry as usual. However, they apparently misjudged the depth of the water and drowned while attempting to save each other.
Rescue and Medical Response
Village sarpanch Dnyaneshwar Sanap was informed of the incident. He immediately went to the spot with a group of villagers and retrieved the boys from the water. Although they were rushed to the rural hospital at Ghulewadi, doctors declared them brought dead upon arrival.
Legal Action
The Sangamner taluka police have registered a case of accidental death and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
