A tragic road accident in Jharkhand's Pakur district claimed two lives and left 33 others injured when a bus carrying a wedding party overturned in the early hours of Wednesday. The incident occurred near Malipada village under Amrapara block around 1 am on the Amrapara–Singarsi Main Road, according to police.
Victims and Cause of Accident
The deceased were identified as Olen Murmu, 64, and Rajesh Tudu, 16. The wedding party was returning from Pariyardaha village in Maheshpur block of Pakur district to Sundarpahari in Godda district when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn. Police said overspeeding was the primary cause of the accident.
“The bus was speeding when the driver lost control. Several passengers sustained serious injuries, while others were trapped beneath seats and other parts of the overturned vehicle before being rescued,” said Manoj Kumar, one of the injured passengers.
Rescue and Medical Response
Upon receiving information, police rushed to the spot and, with the help of local residents, rescued the occupants. The injured were immediately shifted to the community health centre (CHC) in Amrapara. Anup Roshan Bhengra, the officer-in-charge of Amrapara police station, stated, “All the rescued passengers were initially admitted to the CHC, of which five seriously injured persons were later referred to Dumka for advanced treatment.”
Residents praised the prompt rescue effort, which helped avert more casualties, and commended the police for their swift response.
