Udhayakumar Warns TVK's Arjuna of Political Consequences

In a sharp political warning, senior AIADMK leader and former minister R B Udhayakumar has cautioned Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Aadhav Arjuna of severe 'political consequences' if he continues to poach cadre from the AIADMK. The statement comes amid growing tensions between the two parties over alleged attempts to lure workers from the principal opposition party in Tamil Nadu.

Udhayakumar's Statement

Speaking to reporters in Chennai, Udhayakumar said, 'Aadhav Arjuna and his party should understand that poaching cadre from established parties like AIADMK will not be tolerated. There will be political consequences if this continues.' He further pointed out that the 2026 Assembly election results clearly showed the mood of the people, with 68.5 per cent of the total voting population in Tamil Nadu casting their ballots against the DMK-led alliance.

Udhayakumar emphasized that the AIADMK remains a strong force and that attempts to weaken it would backfire. He accused TVK of trying to create confusion among AIADMK workers by making false promises.

Political Context

The warning comes at a time when TVK, led by Aadhav Arjuna, has been expanding its footprint in Tamil Nadu politics, targeting disgruntled workers from both the AIADMK and the DMK. The AIADMK, which suffered a defeat in the 2026 elections, has been working to consolidate its cadre and rebuild the party organization.

Political analysts view Udhayakumar's remarks as a sign of the AIADMK's determination to protect its cadre base ahead of future electoral battles. The 68.5 per cent anti-DMK vote share mentioned by Udhayakumar is being used by the AIADMK to argue that the DMK's victory was not a mandate but a result of vote splitting among opposition parties.

TVK has not yet officially responded to the warning. However, party insiders indicate that Aadhav Arjuna is unlikely to back down, as the party continues to attract workers from other parties in its bid to emerge as a third front in Tamil Nadu politics.
