UP BJP President Accuses Opposition of Protecting Dynastic Politics by Opposing Women's Reservation Bill
In a strongly worded press conference held in Noida on Wednesday, Uttar Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Pankaj Chaudhary launched a scathing attack on the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress, accusing them of opposing the Women's Reservation Bill to protect their dynastic political interests.
Allegations Against Opposition Parties
Chaudhary asserted that political parties that thrive on family-based patronage systems are fundamentally uncomfortable with greater political participation of women. "If women take responsibility in politics, family patronage politics will come to an end," he declared, emphasizing that this is the core reason behind opposition resistance to the landmark legislation.
The UP BJP chief explained that the Modi government introduced the Women's Reservation Bill specifically to ensure that women from ordinary, common families could have genuine opportunities to become Members of Legislative Assemblies (MLAs) and Members of Parliament (MPs). He alleged that opposition parties actually celebrated when the bill faced obstacles, interpreting their resistance as clear hostility toward women's empowerment.
"They have opposed not just a bill, but a historic transformation in women's lives," Chaudhary stated, framing the legislation as a pivotal moment for gender equality in Indian politics.
Charges of Hypocrisy on Women's Issues
Chaudhary further accused opposition parties of blatant hypocrisy regarding women's rights, pointing to their previous opposition to the Triple Talaq legislation in India. He argued that their recent demands for separate reservation for Muslim women are politically motivated rather than genuine attempts at empowerment.
The BJP leader contrasted this with his party's position, asserting that the BJP remains fully committed to women's rights and social advancement. He said party workers would continue to actively support Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of women-led development across all sectors.
Women's Role in Noida's Development
During his address, Chaudhary highlighted Noida as one of the fastest-developing urban centers in the country, noting that women play a major role in its remarkable economic progress. He pointed out that thousands of companies and industries operating in the city employ a substantial number of women, contributing significantly to the local economy.
Law and Order Improvements Under BJP Government
The UP BJP president also addressed security concerns, alleging that women faced considerable insecurity in Uttar Pradesh under previous state governments. He claimed that after the BJP formed the government in UP, concrete steps were implemented to:
- Improve overall law and order conditions
- Strengthen administrative accountability mechanisms
- Ensure enhanced safety for women in urban areas
Chaudhary specifically credited the 'double-engine' government—referring to BJP rule at both state and central levels—for significant growth in the number of working women in Uttar Pradesh over the past nine years. He presented this as evidence of the BJP's tangible commitment to women's empowerment beyond mere political rhetoric.
The press conference concluded with Chaudhary reinforcing his party's dedication to creating an inclusive political environment where women from all backgrounds can participate meaningfully, free from the constraints of dynastic politics that he claims opposition parties are determined to preserve.
