UP BJP chief slams SP over assault on woman leader

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Samajwadi Party (SP) following reports of an alleged assault on a woman district president of the party in Chandauli. The incident reportedly involved SP functionaries at her residence.

Chaudhary accused the SP of hypocrisy over its repeated claims of championing women's rights and social justice. He stated that the alleged episode exposed the "real face" of SP's much-publicised PDA politics, which stands for "Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak" (Backward, Dalit, Minority).

"The new version of SP's PDA is now 'Peeda, Daman aur Apmaan' (pain, oppression and insult)," he remarked, playing on the party's acronym.

"Samajwadi Party speaks about women's dignity and empowerment from public platforms, but the treatment meted out to its own woman office-bearer reflects a stark contrast between its claims and ground reality," Chaudhary said.

He alleged that the SP's model of women's respect remained confined to slogans and posters, asserting that women in Uttar Pradesh were fully aware of the "character and conduct" of the party. The BJP leader's comments came amid heightened political tensions in the state ahead of upcoming elections.
