UP BJP Chief Pankaj Chaudhary Lauds Women's Reservation Bill as Historic Empowerment Measure
In Lucknow on Thursday, Uttar Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Pankaj Chaudhary delivered a powerful endorsement of the Women's Reservation Bill, characterizing it as a historic and far-reaching step toward empowering half of India's population. He emphasized that this legislation transcends mere political representation, serving as a catalyst for comprehensive national progress.
Beyond Representation: A New Direction for National Development
Chaudhary articulated that the bill is not simply a mechanism to increase women's presence in politics by involving them in policy formulation and decision-making. He asserted it is poised to steer the nation's holistic development in an entirely new direction. This perspective positions the bill as integral to broader socio-economic advancement.
"The Women's Reservation Bill is the culmination of this visionary outlook — where the resolve to grant women equal opportunities, dignity and rights is clearly evident," Chaudhary stated. He expressed unwavering confidence that the legislation will elevate women's participation in India's political landscape to unprecedented heights.
Modi Government's Record on Women's Empowerment
Chaudhary highlighted that the Modi administration has consistently prioritized women's empowerment over the past eleven years, achieving what he termed "unprecedented" success. He detailed several key government initiatives that have directly impacted women's lives:
- Financial Inclusion: Over 320 million Jan Dhan accounts have been opened for women, providing a foundation for economic empowerment.
- Entrepreneurship Support: Approximately 68% of beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana are women, facilitating access to credit.
- Collective Empowerment: More than 100 million women have joined self-help groups, enhancing both their economic and social standing.
- Housing Security: A significant number of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana have been allotted in women's names, boosting their social dignity and security.
- Health and Living Standards: The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana has provided over 100 million gas connections, liberating women from hazardous smoke and improving health outcomes.
"Collectively, these schemes demonstrate that the NDA government has meticulously designed every initiative with the core objective of women's empowerment in mind," Chaudhary affirmed.
Rejection of Religion-Based Reservation Demands
In response to Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav's call for separate reservation for Muslim women, Chaudhary firmly stated that the Indian Constitution does not permit religion-based reservation. He criticized the SP leadership's assertion, arguing it not only violates constitutional norms but also promotes divisive politics within society.
Chaudhary's remarks underscore the BJP's stance on maintaining a unified approach to women's reservation, aligning with constitutional principles while advancing empowerment through targeted schemes and legislative action.
