Uttar Pradesh's Urdu-Speaking Constituencies Record Lower Voter Deletions and Higher Additions
In a detailed analysis of electoral data, the Election Commission has identified 46 Assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh as 'Urdu Speaking,' which have shown a distinct pattern in voter registration trends. These constituencies, many with a significant Muslim voter presence, recorded a lower percentage of voter deletions and a slightly higher rate of additions compared to the state average.
Voter Deletion Rates Below State Average
According to the Election Commission's findings, the 46 Urdu-speaking constituencies registered an average voter deletion rate of 12.7%. This figure is notably below the statewide average of 13.24% for Uttar Pradesh. In absolute terms, these constituencies accounted for 26.33 lakh deletions out of the total 2.04 crore deletions across the state.
The data highlights specific constituencies with the highest deletion numbers. Lucknow Central led with 1.07 lakh deletions, representing 28.88% of its electorate. It was followed closely by Meerut Cantt with 1.21 lakh deletions (27.79%), Meerut South with 1.18 lakh deletions (23.19%), Bareilly with 1.17 lakh deletions (25.1%), and Shahjahanpur with 1.06 lakh deletions (24.32%). Other notable constituencies include Bareilly Cantt (99,379 deletions; 25.95%), Bahraich (90,508 deletions; 21.87%), Lucknow West (87,467 deletions; 18.6%), Aligarh (86,650 deletions; 21.81%), and Arya Nagar (77,096 deletions; 25.8%).
Higher Voter Addition Rates in Revision Period
During the revision period following January 6, 2026, which involved three months of claims, objections, hearings, and verification, these constituencies also demonstrated a higher rate of voter additions. The average addition rate in the 46 Urdu-speaking constituencies was 6.91%, slightly above the state average of 6.71%.
In numerical terms, these constituencies added 11.79 lakh voters, contributing to the statewide addition of 84.28 lakh voters. As of April 10, Uttar Pradesh boasts a total electorate of 13.39 crore.
The maximum voter additions were recorded in Lucknow West with 54,822 additions (16.71%), Bareilly with 47,550 additions (15.67%), Firozabad with 47,757 additions (14.46%), Saharanpur Nagar with 42,336 additions (12.27%), Khalilabad with 37,427 additions (10.12%), Meerut South with 36,455 additions (10.26%), Mau with 35,595 additions (9.44%), and Bareilly Cantt with 34,966 additions (14.07%).
Background on Bilingual Electoral Data
Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa provided context for these trends, explaining that in areas where more than 20% of the population speaks a second language, voter-related data is published in two languages alongside the local vernacular. For these 46 constituencies, electoral data was issued in both Hindi and Urdu, a practice initiated following the 2008 delimitation exercise.
