UP Voter Count Exceeds 13 Crore in Final Electoral Roll Update

Uttar Pradesh's Voter Base Expands Significantly in Final Electoral Roll Update

The voter base in Uttar Pradesh has officially crossed the significant milestone of 13 crore, following the publication of the final electoral rolls under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Programme-2026 on April 10. This comprehensive update marks a crucial step in preparing for upcoming elections in the state, ensuring a more accurate and robust voter database.

Substantial Increase in Voter Numbers

According to the latest official data, the total number of voters in Uttar Pradesh has risen dramatically from 12.55 crore as of January 6 to an impressive 13.39 crore after the completion of the SIR exercise. The revised rolls provide a detailed breakdown, showing 7.13 crore male voters, 6.09 crore female voters, and 4,206 third gender voters. This results in a gender ratio of 834 women per 1,000 men, highlighting ongoing demographic trends.

A notable addition of 17.63 lakh new voters aged 18 and above has been recorded during this revision period, reflecting active participation from the youth and newly eligible citizens. The final electoral rolls were prepared with January 1, 2026, as the qualifying date, and have been officially released at various district-level offices across the state.

Access and Verification of Electoral Rolls

The updated rolls are now available for public inspection at key locations, including Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), District Election Offices, and designated polling centres. Voters have a one-week window to verify their names and details, ensuring accuracy and addressing any discrepancies before the electoral process begins.

For added convenience, voters can also access the lists online through official websites such as the District Election Officer, Prayagraj, and the Chief Electoral Officer, Uttar Pradesh. This digital accessibility aims to enhance transparency and encourage broader public engagement in the electoral system.

Districts with Highest Voter Increase

Several districts in Uttar Pradesh have shown particularly strong participation in the revision drive, recording the highest increases in voter numbers. Prayagraj, Lucknow, Bareilly, Ghaziabad, and Jaunpur stand out as the top performers, indicating robust civic engagement and effective outreach efforts in these regions.

Large-Scale Verification and Deletion Process

The SIR exercise involved an extensive verification process, with a total of 3.26 crore voters issued notices for review. Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa reported that by March 6, approximately 93.8% of these notices (3.06 crore) had been served, and hearings were completed for 2.8 crore cases, accounting for 85.8% of the total. The remaining cases were concluded by March 27, ensuring thorough scrutiny.

Despite the overall rise in voter numbers, the updated rolls show a reduction of 2.4 crore compared to the figure from October 27, 2025, when the SIR was initially announced. This decrease is largely attributed to deletions and corrections made during the revision process.

Detailed Breakdown of Deletions and Corrections

A total of 44,952 names were deleted from the electoral rolls as of March 6. The reasons for these deletions include:

  • 27,118 due to migration
  • 10,014 self-initiated deletions via Form 7
  • 7,820 following objections, which comprised:
    1. 5,153 due to deaths
    2. 1,728 due to shifting
    3. 932 duplicate entries

Additionally, 2.73 lakh Form 7 applications remain pending, indicating ongoing administrative work. The revision also saw high activity in corrections and updates, with 16.33 lakh Form 8 applications filed between January 6 and March 6, and a total of 22.55 lakh since October 27, 2025.

Implications for Future Elections

Officials have emphasized that the successful completion of the SIR exercise ensures a more accurate and updated voter database, which is essential for smoother electoral processes in Uttar Pradesh. This revision not only reflects the state's growing population but also enhances the integrity of the electoral system by removing inaccuracies and incorporating new voters.
