Vadodara CWC Visits Bridge Collapse Victim's Family

The child welfare committee (CWC) in Vadodara has renewed its consultations with the family of Ramesh Padhiya, who lost his life in the Gambhira Bridge collapse on July 9, 2025. The discussions focus on exploring education and care options for his three minor daughters.

Visit to the Family

Members of the CWC, accompanied by officials from the district child protection unit and representatives of the NGO House of Humanity, visited Padhiyar’s family in Dariyapura village near Vadodara on Thursday. The visit aimed to assess the needs of the children and provide necessary support.

Details of the Tragedy

Ramesh and his wife Sonal were traveling in a van with their two-year-old son, four-year-old daughter, and three other relatives when the vehicle plunged into the Mahi river after the bridge collapsed on July 9. All occupants except Sonal died in the incident. The three daughters had been left behind with relatives at their home.

Previous Interactions

CWC members had earlier met Sonal and offered assistance, but she requested time for the family to come to terms with the tragedy before making any decisions.

Proposed Plan

CWC chairman Mehul Lakhani stated that the committee discussed the possibility of shifting the girls to Vadodara for their education with the support of a suitable organization. Sonal is likely to visit Vadodara with relatives and the girls to assess the available facilities.

Government Support

Lakhani added that government schemes are in place to support children in such circumstances, ensuring their well-being and future prospects.
