MDMK Leader Vaiko Accuses Election Commission of Favoritism and Hypocrisy
In a sharp critique delivered in Madurai on Monday, MDMK general secretary Vaiko launched a scathing attack on the Election Commission, alleging blatant partiality and double standards in its enforcement of election protocols. The veteran politician specifically highlighted what he termed as discriminatory treatment in the inspection of campaign vehicles.
Targeted Scrutiny of CM Stalin's Vehicle
Vaiko asserted that election squads have been conducting frequent and intrusive inspections of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin's campaign vehicle, often while the leader is inside. He questioned the consistency of this practice, demanding to know whether similar rigorous checks are being applied to the vehicles of chief ministers from BJP-ruled states.
"Why is there such a glaring discrepancy in enforcement?" Vaiko challenged reporters. "The Election Commission seems to have one rule for DMK and another for the BJP. This selective application of protocol undermines the very integrity of our electoral process."
Exemption for Top BJP Leadership
The MDMK leader pointedly questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vehicle, which he uses extensively for roadshows across the country, appears to be exempt from similar inspections. "Would the Election Commission dare to inspect the vehicles of Home Minister Amit Shah, Union ministers, or the Prime Minister himself?" Vaiko asked rhetorically.
He continued with a direct accusation: "If such inspections are not being carried out uniformly across all political parties and leaders, then the entire process reeks of bias and hypocrisy. The Election Commission must answer for this unequal treatment."
Confidence in Tamil Nadu's Political Landscape
Despite the alleged institutional bias, Vaiko expressed unwavering confidence in Tamil Nadu's political resilience. He declared that regardless of how frequently BJP leaders like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah visit the state with their full political machinery, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) cannot secure victory in Tamil Nadu.
"The people of Tamil Nadu see through these tactics," Vaiko stated. "No amount of visits or political force can alter the fundamental political preferences of our state."
Campaign Launch in Tenkasi District
Vaiko commenced his election campaign on Monday from Kadayanallur in Tenkasi district, actively campaigning in support of MDMK candidate T M Rajendran. His criticism of the Election Commission formed a central theme of his campaign rhetoric, positioning institutional fairness as a key election issue.
The MDMK leader's allegations have added fuel to ongoing debates about election monitoring impartiality, particularly as the country approaches crucial electoral phases. His statements reflect growing concerns among opposition parties about equal application of election rules and regulations across the political spectrum.
