Vijay Endures Lengthy CBI Questioning in Karur Stampede Investigation
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay underwent a rigorous interrogation session on Monday. The CBI questioned him for nearly six hours at their headquarters in New Delhi. This marked his second appearance before the agency in connection with the tragic Karur stampede case.
Details of the Interrogation Session
Vijay arrived at the CBI office at 10:20 am and departed around 5 pm, as reported by news agency PTI. A deputy superintendent–rank officer from the CBI’s anti-corruption wing led the questioning team. The session focused on multiple aspects of the rally that led to the stampede.
Investigators reportedly asked Vijay about the decision-making process behind organizing the rally. They also inquired into reasons for his delayed arrival at the venue. Questions extended to why he continued his speech amid growing chaos. The CBI sought to understand his awareness of the unfolding situation and the expected turnout. Allegations of crowd mismanagement formed a key part of the interrogation.
Ongoing Probe and Future Steps
The CBI will determine individual responsibility only after a thorough analysis. They plan to review statements from Vijay, senior TVK members, and officials from the police and district administration. These officials were involved in granting clearance and managing the rally.
This recent session follows Vijay’s initial questioning on January 12. The agency had asked him to return the next day, but he requested a different date due to the Pongal festival. Consequently, the CBI summoned him for January 19.
The Supreme Court ordered the CBI to take over the probe from a Tamil Nadu Police special investigation team. Since then, the agency has been collecting evidence related to the September 27, 2025 stampede in Karur. The incident claimed 41 lives and left more than 60 people injured.
TVK Leader Addresses Media and Denies Rumors
Senior TVK leader CT Nirmal Kumar spoke to reporters outside the CBI office. He emphasized the party’s cooperation with the investigating agencies. Kumar urged people to refrain from spreading misinformation. He clarified that Vijay has not been called for another round of questioning.
Kumar addressed the rumors circulating about the case. He stated that many of these rumors are untrue. He reminded everyone of the known facts about the Karur incident. Kumar noted that MPs from Delhi had visited Karur. He also referenced statements from the Tamil Nadu BJP president regarding the events.
