White House Press Secretary Hosts Baby Shower with Prominent MAGA Figures
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt recently marked a personal milestone with a baby shower celebration attended by several notable women from MAGA circles. The event, held in anticipation of her daughter's arrival in May 2026, included former Department of Education advisor Katie Miller and former US Attorney General Pam Bondi.
Social Media Announcement Sparks Congratulations and Controversy
Katie Miller, who is also expecting a child and is married to US Homeland Security Advisor, shared photographs from the celebration on social media platform X on March 23. Her caption read: "Celebrating the great @karolineleavitt and her baby girl." The post generated numerous congratulatory messages from supporters, with one commenter noting: "So wonderful to have a supportive and friendly team. We The People are so excited for the birth of this beautiful baby girl."
However, the online discussion quickly shifted focus when observers noted the absence of Leavitt's husband, businessman Nicholas Riccio, from the celebration. This prompted commentary about their significant age difference, with one user questioning: "Where's Grandpa? I mean her husband." Another added: "Wow! Wonder where the 'old man' literally was, and not Trump, but her rich hubby at least twice her age."
The Age Gap Relationship Under Scrutiny
Leavitt, 28, and Riccio share an age difference of 32 years, having married secretly last year. The couple previously announced in December 2025 that they were expecting a daughter, and they already have a son, Nicholas "Niko" Robert Riccio, born in 2024.
This is not the first time their relationship has attracted attention. During her first pregnancy in 2024, similar questions arose about Riccio's absence from public events, leading Leavitt to address the matter directly. She explained that her husband "hates" social media and prefers privacy, stating: "He doesn't have social media and he's an introvert (complete opposite of me). I respect his privacy on here - but he's my number one fan, the best dad, and just the best man I've ever met."
Leavitt's Perspective on Her "Atypical" Marriage
Despite public scrutiny, Leavitt has consistently portrayed her marriage as strong and supportive. In a March 2025 appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show, she described Riccio as "my greatest supporter, he's my best friend and he's my rock." She highlighted how the wealthy real estate developer has built his own successful business and now supports her career ambitions.
The couple met in 2022 when Leavitt was campaigning for Congress in New Hampshire. A mutual friend organized an event at one of Riccio's restaurants, where they were introduced. "I was speaking. We met and we were acquainted as friends. And then we fell in love," Leavitt revealed about their relationship's origins.
Professional Context and Public Perception
At 27, Leavitt became the youngest White House Press Secretary in history, a position that has exposed her to significant public criticism regarding her defense of Trump administration policies. Her personal life, particularly her age-gap marriage, has become intertwined with this professional scrutiny, mirroring patterns seen with other MAGA-aligned couples in the public eye.
While online commentators continue to debate the dynamics of her relationship, Leavitt maintains that she has found both personal happiness and professional support in her marriage. The baby shower celebration, while a private family event, has once again brought these personal matters into the public discourse surrounding one of the administration's most visible spokespeople.
