A woman from the Sundarbans carried her specially abled husband on her back to attend a public grievance meeting organized by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari in Kolkata. The couple sought assistance for an electric vehicle and housing support during the meeting held at the BJP office in Salt Lake.
Journey to Kolkata
The couple traveled to Kolkata to present their hardships directly before the Chief Minister during the 'Janta Darbar', as reported by news agency ANI. Sanyasi Mandal, the husband, shared his story: "I have come from the Sundarbans. I am helpless and in need of an electric vehicle. My wife did not receive any benefits from Lakshmir Bhandar, and as a person with a disability, I went up to the stage to request a house of my own. The CM assured us that our problems will be solved within seven days."
Issues Raised
Mandal further stated that they raised the issue of non-receipt of benefits under the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme and sought housing assistance. The public grievance meeting was part of the state government's outreach efforts, enabling citizens from different parts of West Bengal to directly present their issues before the Chief Minister and concerned authorities.
Recent Cabinet Expansion
Earlier on Monday, 35 new ministers took oath at Lok Bhawan in Kolkata as part of a cabinet expansion. The new cabinet reflects a balance of representation across 13 districts. This development underscores the state government's commitment to inclusive governance and addressing regional concerns.
The couple's story highlights the challenges faced by people with disabilities in accessing government schemes and the lengths they must go to seek assistance. The Chief Minister's assurance of a resolution within a week brings hope to the family and underscores the importance of such grievance redressal platforms.
