A 30-year-old woman, identified as Dimple from Patiala, was stabbed to death at her office in Mohali on Thursday, just days before her scheduled wedding. The incident occurred at a freight brokerage and business support firm in Sector 66, where she had been employed for three years. Medical examiners confirmed that Dimple sustained 34 stab wounds.
Suspect in Critical Condition
The suspect, Harvinder Mann, aged 34, whose parents reside in the United States, is under police guard in critical condition. According to police, Mann used the same knife to stab himself 10 to 11 times in the neck after the attack. His formal arrest and interrogation have been postponed until he is medically cleared for discharge.
Wedding Plans Cut Short
Dimple's brother expressed the family's grief, stating, "The family had recently finalised arrangements for her wedding, which was due within days." The sudden tragedy has left the family devastated.
Attack Caught on Camera
The assault was captured on security cameras, unfolding in full view of several employees present on the floor. Footage shows Mann approaching Dimple from behind as she sat at her computer. When she attempted to flee, Mann dragged her by the hair. As colleagues gathered to rescue her, Mann brandished the knife to keep them at bay while continuing the assault.
Emergency Response
Emergency services transported both Dimple and Mann to a local hospital. However, Dimple was declared dead on arrival. The severity of her injuries prevented any chance of survival.
Preliminary Investigation
Preliminary investigations indicate that Dimple and Mann had been good friends since starting at the firm, but they parted ways six months ago. Mohali Phase XI Station House Officer Aman Baidwan told news agencies that a rift had formed after Dimple repeatedly rejected Mann's attempts at reconciliation. Police also claimed that Mann had been dealing with depression from a prior breakup shortly before meeting Dimple.
Living Arrangements
Both individuals lived in separate paying-guest accommodations on the outskirts of Chandigarh and commuted home to Patiala on weekends. The proximity of their living situations may have contributed to the ongoing tension.
Legal Proceedings
City-II DSP Harsimran Singh Bal confirmed that a murder case has been registered against Mann. Detectives are currently recording statements from witnesses and Dimple's family. The accused remains in a critical state, and further legal actions will proceed once he is discharged from medical care.
