The central government has extended 'Y' category armed security cover to senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and Lok Sabha MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, with the protection team deployed from May 19, an official confirmed in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Security Details

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) assigned the security cover, to be provided by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), a central armed police force responsible for safeguarding critical infrastructure and protecting high-risk individuals. This decision followed a security assessment report by the Intelligence Bureau (IB).

Under the 'Y' category, the protectee is typically assigned a team of armed personnel providing round-the-clock security. Sources indicated that the decision to secure Dastidar, who represents the Barasat constituency in West Bengal, was taken after a thorough review of her threat profile.
