CM Yogi Adityanath Launches Major Heritage and Urban Development Initiatives in Gorakhpur
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated a series of significant projects in Gorakhpur on Sunday, focusing on a unique blend of heritage conservation and modern urban development. The initiatives aim to preserve the city's historical legacy while enhancing its infrastructure for future generations.
Beautification of Iconic Ghantaghar: A Tribute to Freedom Struggle
The highlight of the event was the inauguration of the beautification work at the iconic Ghantaghar, a site deeply associated with India's freedom movement. This clock tower, constructed in 1930 by local philanthropists Seth Ram Khelawan and Seth Thakur Prasad, has long stood as a symbol of Gorakhpur's rich heritage.
The Ghantaghar area holds immense historical significance, as it was once the site where several freedom fighters were executed during the First War of Independence. A poignant moment occurred on December 19, 1927, when the funeral procession of martyr Ram Prasad Bismil arrived here after his execution in Gorakhpur jail, and his mother delivered an emotional address that resonated with the public.
The recent beautification project, carried out by the Gorakhpur Nagar Nigam at a cost of Rs 1 crore, aims to meticulously preserve this heritage for future generations, ensuring that the stories of sacrifice and struggle are not forgotten.
Multi-Level Parking-Cum-Commercial Complex at Bandhu Singh Park
In addition to the heritage work, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated a state-of-the-art multi-level parking facility at Bandhu Singh Park, named after the freedom fighter Bandhu Singh. This Rs 27.26-crore project includes:
- Parking space for 50 cars and 200 two-wheelers
- 43 commercial shops to boost local economy
- Murals depicting key episodes from the freedom movement
- Integration of the existing Sheetla Mata temple within its structure
This facility not only addresses urban parking challenges but also serves as a cultural hub, celebrating India's independence history through art and architecture.
Foundation Stone Laid for New Commercial Complex in Heritage Corridor
To further boost commercial infrastructure, the CM laid the foundation stone for a Rs 34.43-crore commercial complex in the Pandeyhata heritage corridor area. This project is part of the broader heritage corridor plan, designed to revitalize historical zones while promoting economic growth through modern amenities.
These initiatives underscore the government's commitment to balancing preservation with progress, ensuring that Gorakhpur's historical sites are protected while its urban landscape evolves to meet contemporary needs. The projects are expected to enhance tourism, create employment opportunities, and improve the quality of life for residents.
Overall, the inauguration and foundation-laying ceremonies mark a significant step in Gorakhpur's development journey, honoring its past while building a sustainable future.
