Madurai, Trichy airports celebrate Yatri Suvidha Diwas

Madurai and Trichy international airports observed Yatri Suvidha Diwas on Monday with a series of passenger outreach, community engagement, and awareness programmes aimed at enhancing passenger experience and promoting civil aviation.

Celebrations at Madurai International Airport

At Madurai International Airport, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) welcomed arriving passengers and organised a folk-dance performance in the arrival hall. Activities included a tree plantation drive under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, quiz and painting competitions for children, and selfie booths in the arrival and departure areas.

Blood donation, free health, and eye check-up camps were conducted with the participation of medical experts. Airport taxi drivers were also invited to avail themselves of the services.

AAI officials visited Class XII students of St Anne’s High School to create awareness about career opportunities in the aviation sector. Women staff members were honoured during the event, and passenger feedback was collected to help improve service delivery.

Observance at Trichy International Airport

At Trichy International Airport, Yatri Suvidha Diwas was observed as part of nationwide celebrations marking 12 years of growth and transformation in the civil aviation sector. Domestic and international passengers were accorded a traditional welcome, while tree and plant saplings were distributed to promote environmental awareness. Airport employees, security personnel, airline staff, and other stakeholders joined in a collective rendition of Vande Mataram.

“Sessions on yoga and wellness awareness programmes for passengers and airport staff were conducted. School children were invited and explained about the roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders, including security and fire service personnel at the airport,” said S S Raju, airport director.

The airport also organised familiarisation tours and career guidance sessions for college students, along with flash mobs and cultural programmes showcasing local traditions and heritage. Students of the airport nursery school participated in painting and quiz competitions, while housekeeping staff were felicitated for their contribution to maintaining cleanliness and passenger comfort.

A tree plantation drive was also held on the airport campus.
